The 316L stainless steel, which Certina uses for cases, bracelets and clasps for instance, is extremely resistant, corrosion-resistant and hygienic. It contains only a very small proportion of nickel, which is not emitted when worn and therefore does not trigger any nickel allergies.

The ceramic used in watchmaking is hardened in a firing process at a temperature of more than 900 °C. Certina's ceramic bezels, cabochons and strap elements not only look good - they are also scratch-resistant and hypoallergenic, and they retain their intensive colour and shine for a long time.

Super-LumiNova

SLN is the acronym for Super-LumiNova®, a phosphorescent luminescent material. The BG W9 type of SLN, used by Certina, emits the stored light in the form of a bluish glow in the dark. SLN poses no risk to health and is used to coat hands, indices and bezels. Its brightness decreases in the dark after some time, but it is automatically recharged when light strikes it.

Antireflection treatment on one side

It is possible to enhance the quality of a sapphire crystal to an even greater extent by providing it with an anti-reflective coating on one or both sides. The Certina brand is becoming increasingly focussed on equipping its timepieces with an extremely high-quality anti-reflective coating on both sides, whereby several layers of this coating on both sides of the crystal ensure that it is possible to see through the timepieces in an optimum manner.

Sapphire crystal

Sapphire watch crystal is made of aluminium oxide power (Al2O3) heated to over 2000 °C. The resultant sapphire nugget is cut with great precision into fine slices, trimmed and polished. Sapphire is extremely scratch-resistant, shock-resistant and is very transparent. This is why sapphire crystal is an essential element in the DS Concept and is therefore used by Certina in all of its models to protect the dials.

Water resistance

Diver's watch 300m according to ISO 6425:2018

A divers' watch is a water-resistant and pressure-resistant wristwatch. Certina tests each and every one of these timepieces in water for three hours, as is required by ISO standard 6425. Super-LumiNova® (SLN) is a luminescent material with phosphorescent properties. In the dark, the SLN type BG W9 used by Certina emits the light stored as a blue shimmer. SLN does not damage your health in any way and is used in coatings on hands, indices and bezels. It progressively loses its phosphorescence in darkness, but automatically regains it under light.
